Edward Nelson at Princeton is questioning the consistency of Peano Arithmetic that many of the brightest mind of this past century have concluded the impossibility of arguments for such statement, so Nelson's thesis would knock down the heart and soul of Mathematical Logic and Foundations of Mathematics..but, how far has he gone? I came a cross to this film, a Chilean documentary which theme is the students movement in the late eighties in Chile. To describe the climate on those years, there is a single word that capture what was going then, Pinochet. For some of us, especially the middle edge ones, we know how divided our society was, as teenager then, we were witnesses of hard times, fear, anger were part of our daily feelings. What did we do then? To take the streets. This picture is one the many shots that you will find in it. In this one you can read the message "Seguridad para estudiar y libertad para vivir!!!" Busby Berkeley, was truly a genius of choreography and design. His design sense and knack for innovation in film is why I find him a fascinating personality who deserved his own site. When I was in college, although I majored in Painting, I took as many film history classes as possible, because I loved watching classic movies. The Professor of the class on American film focused on Busby Berkeley many times and even devoted a whole class just to his musical numbers. Perhaps because of all those hours spent in the dark with those 1930's musicals is why my favorite Berkeley work is that done at Warner Brothers. My artistic nature is the reason that I loved and enjoyed seeing the patterns and images he created with hundreds of dancers and elaborate set design. He has never been matched! I hope you will enjoy this trip detailing his life's work as much as I did while creating this site.

The slim book that was suddenly the most controversial work in the West in early March was not easy to find in the United States. Amazon said it wasn't available till April. The Strand bookstore didn't have it either. You could order it on Amazon-UK, but it would be a week getting here. I finally found an author in Michigan who kindly photocopied the British book and overnighted it to me; but to be on the safe side, I visited an activist's apartment on Eighth Avenue on the promise that I could take her much-in-demand copy to the lobby for half an hour. In the elevator, I flipped it open to a random passage......

Lila Says is based on a bestselling novel that caused much controversy in France, with some commentators questioning whether author and first-person narrator Chimo really was a 19-year-old North African from an estate who had written it in two school exercise books. Doueiri's film, updating the story with some post-September 11 references, follows young would-be writer Chimo as he falls for Lila, the sexually forthright young French girl who moves in one day and turns the neighborhood upside down. Arguably, Lila comes across as something of a male fantasy (and fear) figure, constantly provoking Chimo and the camera with her torrid glances and explicit sexual fantasies. But behind her bold surface, Lila has an intensely dysfunctional home life and a secret Chimo hasn't guessed. For all its (largely verbal) explicitness, Douieri's film has an odd innocence, and could almost be described as a multi-cultural teenage Betty Blue. This provocative film - as much about tolerance as sexuality - certainly gets a boost from two impressive young leads, and the stylistic verve Douieri showed in his much-praised debut West Beirut are fully present here. Notable features are a richly wrought score by Nitin Sawnhey, and French cinema's most sexually charged bicycle ride since Jules et Jim.

Synopsis:

Q&A with Director Miranda July

Where did the idea for this film originate?
This movie was inspired by the longing I carried around as a child, longing for the future, for someone to find me, for magic to descend upon my life and transform everything. It was also informed by how this longing progressed as I became an adult, slightly more fearful, more contorted, but no less fantastically hopeful.

You have a varied background in the arts. How did these other mediums inform your filmmaking?
To me it is all one medium, all one voice inside me. The mediums - performances, short stories, radio-plays, movies – are just the voice paired with different sides of me. Part of me loves technical invention and will spend months coming up with new ways to interact with video onstage. But other parts of me think that is boring and just want to be on that stage. But then I am also shy and might just want to write a story in my room and not have to deal with anyone. The part of me that makes movies is thinking big and wants to be in conversation with the whole world.
